Catalytic gas nitriding

life02
Catalytic gas nitriding regards the surface hardening of steel through low temperatures ranging from 480°C to 570°C. This enables nitrogen to diffuse into the surface of the component with various advantages in terms of hardness and toughness. The surface layers created by gas nitriding have excellent adhesive wear resistance, seizure resistance and abrasion resistance. The thermo-chemical treatment of gas nitriding gives the component the following properties:

  • high surface hardness and wear resistance
  • stability after tempering with consequent hardness when exposed to heat
  • fatigue resistance
  • resistance to corrosion
  • dimensional stability
